PIZZA DAY 2012 COMING SOON!

Very soon, on Friday, December 7th. the intermediates will be raising money and spirit with Pizza day.A flyer went home with your students recently in which there are two options. Combo 1 and combo 2. If you choose to order one (Or both) of these combos, the money will be donated to the 8th grade graduating field trip. Also, if we raise enough money, it is likely that we may donate to a charity as well. Combo 1 is a slice of cheese pizza and a drink box while combo 2 is the same as the first, with extra pizzas. The order form that has gone home with your child must be back by the 5th of December. The pizzas will be 35.56 cm in Diamaeter. See if you can figure out the rest of the measurements of the Pizza (Area, Circumference, Radius) if it were a perfect circle.

We look forward to Pizza day and the school spirit that comes with it. See you on monday!

Think Global Act Local

Next time you're in the downtown core, look for these well placed statistics that raise awareness about poverty in our city. Also, check out the website wereality.ca. There are some startling local stats on the issue. Perhaps some of this info could be used in a future writing assignment.

Dougall Delivers for Remembrance

This past week Dougall students had the opportunity to learn about Canada's role in military conflicts and peacekeeping missions worldwide. Students toured a transformed Library to examine artifacts, ask questions and listen to facilitators Sabriya, Shaun, Nick and Lisa talk about the sacrifices made by so many Canadians in times of conflict.

The library tour and classroom lessons culminated with a moving Remembrance ceremony in our gymnasium.

Here are a few pictures of 8S on their tour.

Student of the Month - OCTOBER

This morning I proudly presented the Student of the Month to two individuals that truly embody so many of the character traits we embrace here at Dougall.

Both of these individuals arrive each day prepared to learn and do whatever they can (sometimes asked, sometimes not) to help make our school a better place for everyone.

Our first recipient jumps at the chance to work collaboratively and relishes the microphone and the opportunity to entertain! He is a star at Dougall and will continue to star at whatever High School he chooses. Congratulations Armin Jusic.

Our next recipient has made a commitment to improve by staying organized. So far he has done a superb job handing in assignments on time and is experiencing academic success in grade 8. Additionally, he has consistently shown a willingness and knack for working collaboratively with his classmates to reach a common goal. Congratulations Jack Woodrow!

Media Assignment

MEDIA LITERACY
Advertisement
Students will work in groups to design a television, print, or radio ad that encourages people to settle in either Greenal or Graynel at the time of their development. The purpose is to encourage people to move to the island. The ads should focus on what the island has to offer and the values the island upholds. Students will create an outline for the ad and then create a draft. Students will either videotape their final commercials or present them live in class.
